Halesowen's Whiley tweeted the picture after beating Holland's Aniek van Koot in Nottingham.

She raced into a 3-0 first set lead as she faced the world number one in the British Open final for the second successive year.

Despite van Koot coming back, Whiley reeled off eight games in a row to wrap up the second singles title of her career by a score of 6-3, 6-0. The title comes 12 months after her first.

After the game Whiley sent messages of support to her family and friends along with tweeting Dudley Council a picture of her holding her trophy posed in front of the Black Country flag and Union Jack.

She tweeted: "After a great week of tennis and smiles all round it's time to go home. Thanks everyone for the support. And a special thanks to my family for coming out to support.

Earlier in the week Whiley and fellow Brit Lucy Shuker, the London 2012 bronze medallists, had the toughest of first round draws in the women's doubles and eventually bowed out to top seeds Griffioen and van Koot 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Speaking before the big game on Sunday, Whiley said: "I'm so chuffed to be into the final here in Nottingham. It was a tough match, playing Jiske is always tough and it was windy, which made it difficult.

"I'm so glad I was able to fight back after losing the first set and set up a repeat of last year's final against Aniek, hopefully I can go out there and repeat the result."

Whiley has also been selected to represent Great Britain at the Paralympics along with nine other wheelchair tennis players.

At London 2012, she won her first Paralympic medal as she claimed bronze in the women's doubles with Lucy Shuker.

She said: "I'm delighted to be selected for Rio. This will be my third Paralympic Games and this is the one where I will be looking to bring home two gold medals. I've been working so hard for the last four years for this moment, so I fully intend to grab it with both hands."

Since her home Games, Whiley has gone on to notch up seven Grand Slam doubles titles including the 2015 Australian Open and Wimbledon doubles crowns, as well as being the 2015 US Open Singles Champion.
