Kevin Osborne racked up his 125th and 126th thefts when he stole two Dyson vacuum cleaners, Dudley Magistrates Court heard.

District judge Graham Wilkinson told Osborne, aged 44, that he had a 'truly appalling record' and that the only way for him to learn was by being sent to prison.

The court heard how Osborne's long history of offending had seen him embark on a thieving tour of the country, striking in Cardiff, Leicester, Suffolk and Grimsby among many other places.

Mr Wilkinson said: "His sentences are going to get longer and longer until he chooses to stop stealing. He is travelling the country as a professional thief."

Osborne, of Corporation Street, Birmingham, was jailed for 48 weeks.
