Pensioner Reginald Stocking suffered horrific injuries, including a fractured skull, when his Peugeot 207 was stolen in a terrifying car-jacking in West Bromwich on May 10.

Andrew Jones, aged 34, of Manley Close, West Bromwich, denies robbery, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, burglary and witness intimidation.

He is alleged to have stolen a TV from an address in Groveland Road, Dudley Port, just eight hours after the attack.

At the second day of his trial, Jones' former partner Stacey Johnson told Wolverhampton Crown Court he had called her on the evening of May 10.

"He said he had jacked a man out of a car, his (the victim's) head had hit the door and he had gone under the door. He drove off. That is all he said to me."

She told the court the pair had spent the day taking drugs at her flat in West Bromwich. Miss Johnson said they had been taking crack cocaine and heroin before running out of drugs.

Jones had then gone out.

Miss Johnson said Jones had told her he did not know the condition of the man. "He did not stop to see him just drove off."

She said Jones had arranged to meet him her at a tram line where they scored drugs.

"I had an ice cream in my hand. I know it was late but Andrew asked for ice cream," she said.

Miss Johnson said when she arrived Jones had been counting out money on a wall. She said there had been around £60 in all in a mixture of £1 and £2 coins.

"It was some money left in the car. I asked him about what he had done and said some of these new cars are tracked. He shouted at me and said I did not know what I was talking about."

She said after buying drugs they had returned home.

The court was told Jones had later pulled up at her address and got a 40-inch television out of the passenger side of a silver-grey vehicle.

"He parked at the side door because he did not think there was a camera there. He asked me to bring something to cover it with and because I am scared of Andrew I will do what he tells me to do."

She said a sheet had been used to cover the TV and she had taken it up in the lift while Jones had parked the car, before following her to the flat via the stairs.

She said he had put the TV in the hallway and the car had later been sold in exchange for crack cocaine and heroin.

The court was told Miss Johnson had later been arrested and pleaded guilty before magistrates to handling stolen goods as the TV was in her property

Members of the jury heard Miss Johnson had later come forward to give evidence and Jones is alleged to have threatened her to try to get her to withdraw her statement.

Earlier in the hearing, the jury was told Mr Stocking, aged 79 had visited Mecca Bingo, in Oldbury, on May 10. He dropped his wife Sylvia off at their front door before driving around to park at a garage where the attack happened.

He was left in a pool of his own blood and suffered brain damage.

The trial continues.
