Penkridge Market, based in Pinfold Lane, is taking part in a national campaign this month to attract new traders and customers to the town centre.

The 2015 Love Your Local Market scheme aims to highlight the importance markets play in the community.

Local entrepreneurs will be offered stalls for £10 for a fortnight from next week. The campaign will run from Wednesday until May 27.

The market will join more than 900 others across the country offering incentivised pitches aimed at attracting new traders.

Matt Williams, manager at Penkridge Market, said: "We know how tough it is to set up a business, so a market stall is a great way to try out ideas and get customers feedback, without it costing very much.

"The market attracts up to 5,000 people from around the region every market day, so it's a great place to start a new business."

Love Your Local Market 2015 is being led by the National Association of British Market Authorities.

The scheme is also supported by the National Market Traders Federation and Local Government Association.

Penkridge Market is held every Wednesday and Saturday all year round and regularly hosts more than 100 stalls.

It runs from 9am until 3pm and there is a general auction at 10am and a plants, poultry and eggs auction at 11.30pm.

The market is a mix of regular traders and casual traders who bring a supply of new and unusual goods.
