Girl, nine, approached by man asking her to get into car

A nine-year-old girl was approached on her way to school by a man who asked her to get into his car.

The incident has sparked a warning to parents and pupils in and around Perton.

The girl was on Mercia Drive at 8.10am yesterday morning when the driver - described as being aged 35 to 45, white and with a chubby bald head - approached her in his car.

Perton First School duly send a text message to parents which read: "A child has been approached by a stranger on the way to school this morning. Please be extra vigilant and report any suspicious incidents to the police."

Staffordshire Police appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

Spokeswoman Carol Evans said: "A car pulled up and the driver told her to get into the car. She said no and walked off.

"The driver has been described as white, with a chubby bald head and aged approximately 35-45 years old.

"As a precautionary measure police informed all schools in the area to make parents aware. Extra patrols are in the area."
