Tettenhall Rotary Club raised the cash after a fundraising drive, with beneficiaries including foodbanks and community groups.

Twelve groups have received funds, including homelessness charity Outreach 4.

Trustee Neil Amison said: "The generosity of Tettenhall Rotary Club has enabled us to purchase PPE – masks, visors, gloves, aprons and sanitisers – so that our volunteers can safely support the homeless and vulnerable people in Wolverhampton in the provision of food, clothing and help to stay safe from Covid."

Jan Kelland of another recipient, non-profit group Di’s Kitchen, said "We have been able to provide emergency food parcels thanks to kind donations. We are now feeding 400 people a week and since last March we have delivered 9,600 meals to residents in 19 wards in the city,"

Gail Reynolds, centre manager of Stratton Street Methodist Church Community Centre, said the support had enabled them to "provide families and individuals in need with food and other essentials throughout these challenging times".

Hayley Powell, of The Haven, said the cash had been used to create a sensory garden for children.

"During difficult times, this provided the children with an opportunity to spend time outdoors and build friendships as they recover from the trauma of abuse," she said.

Jericho House hostel was able to buy beds and bedding for homeless women and children, while Wildside Activity Centre in Whitmore Reans said the donation had been used to buy a much needed new pump for the group's narrowboat.

Other recipients were The Albrighton Moat Activity Centre, Kingswood Outdoor Centre, The Good Shepherd, The Hope Community Centre in Heath Town, The Salvation Army, and Give us a Break.
