Walsall barbershop shooting jury retires to consider verdict
Jury deliberations in a trial after a man was shot in the stomach outside a Walsall barber's shop during a row relating to money owed over a court have started today.
The jury sitting at Wolverhampton Crown Court retired to consider their verdict at around 11.30am today, following the trial which got underway earlier this month.
Tehmoor Hussain was blasted with a shotgun at the Katz Kutz barber shop, in Wolverhampton Road, Walsall, on May 19, 2019.
The court heard Mr Hussain was in a barber’s chair just after 5pm when two men entered. The men accused him of owing them money, relating to a previous incident involving a car, a judge heard.
Prosecutor Mr Russell Pyne said the men had hit Mr Hussain in the head before leaving to visit their black BMW outside. One of the men then pulled out a shotgun from the car and went to re-enter the barbershop through the glass door, jurors were told.
Prosecutors allege the man who shot Mr Hussain was 20-year-old defendant Uzair Shahid, whilst claiming the other man involved was 19-year-old defendant Toyub Ali.
Both defendants claim they either were not there at the barbershop at the time of the incident or did not carry out what prosecutors allege.
Shahid, of Lichfield Road in Walsall, is charged with attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm intent with intent to endanger life.
Toyub Ali, of no fixed abode, is charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence. Both deny all charges.
