Charity launches appeal to help the vulnerable in lockdown
A charity is raising funds to support vulnerable and isolated people during the third lockdown.
The Community Foundation for Staffordshire is appealing for donations to ensure that vital services are in place for the elderly and the vulnerable.
The charity held a similar appeal during the first lockdown, which raise more than £105,000 within a month.
Chief executive Steve Adams said at the moment many people were isolating in order to limit the spread of Covid-19, but this meant that many vulnerable and elderly people did not have access to the support services they depended on.
Many of the organisations which supported them were also unable to deliver their usual services, he said, and the fund aimed to ensure such services remained in place.
“We are in the eye of another storm and our local vulnerable and isolated people need help," he said.
"This fund will help them. The more money donated; the more help can be given. Last time this single appeal raised a huge amount and made a massive difference."
Last year the charity distributed a total of £1.1 million across Staffordshire, helping almost 500,000 people who were affected by the pandemic.
Mr Adams added that the charity was able to turnaround grants within 48 hours, with specialist and knowledgeable teams able to pinpoint and prioritise people and communities in need.
“We’ve already had some donations and the amount is going up hour by hour," said Mr Adams.
"It shows that people want to help the elderly and vulnerable in our communities, but we need more and even in these difficult times, we again ask for people to dig deep. People can be rest assured that everything they donate will reach the people who need it most, and that is thanks to the generosity of people in Staffordshire.”
