The red postbox, located on Church Lane, West Bromwich, is leaning at an angle after allegedly being hit by a car.

David Wilkes, a community activist who is standing to become a councillor in May, has raised the issue with Sandwell Council.

In response, the local authority says the problem lies with Royal Mail.

Mr Wilkes, who will be standing as the Tory candidate for Wednesbury South, said he was told by a local shop owner that the letterbox was struck by a motor vehicle. It is believed the incident happened on January 2.

He said: "The local shop keeper told me that a car crashed into the post box. It happened around January 2.

"I reported this on Twitter on January 3. I got a response back from the council saying that they don't fix post boxes, and it is down to the Royal Mail to fix.

"It is on a council foot path and is dangerous to the public."

Sandwell Council and Royal Mail were approached for comment.

In a tweet sent to Mr Wilkes on Twitter, Sandwell Council said: "If it is an issue with a postbox, you would need to contact Royal Mail."
