The lithium ion battery caught fire at the semi-detached property in Jenny Close, in Batmans Hill, Tipton, on Monday evening.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "At 6.30pm on Monday, March 8, we were alerted to a small house fire in the bedroom of a semi-detached property in Jenny Close, Batmans Hill.

"A fire engine from Tipton, a brigade response vehicle from West Bromwich and eight firefighters attended the scene, with the first crew arriving in just over three minutes. All occupants had vacated the property prior to the crews’ arrival.

"Two breathing apparatus were required and one hose reel jet used by firefighters to put out the fire, which had been caused by a lithium ion battery charging in the bedroom."

Tipton Fire Station have since tweeted warning people against leaving items on charge unattended.
