The "distressed" feline was found by a homeowner in Oldbury before West Midlands Fire Service was called to help.

Firefighters removed part of a wall to rescue the animal which was taken into the care of the RSPCA.

It was not known who owns the cat at this time.

The rescue operation took place at 7.55am this morning in Sunny Bank Road.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "A call came from one of the occupiers to say the cat was stuck. It was unknown whose cat it was.

"The cat was wedged between two houses. He had got himself stuck. It looks like he had been there a long time and was distressed.

"Fire crews removed a section of wall from one of the properties and released the cat. The occupier was in attendance and consented for this to happen.

"We contacted the RSPCA for them to attend. He got taken to the vets because the owner of the cat was not known."
