Bus driver steps out for children's hospice
A bus driver from Coseley has become a charity hero by stepping out to raise vital funds for Acorns Children's Hospice.
David Wall, 47, has set himself a challenge to take five million steps during the year.
On reaching his target he will have completed the equivalent of 2,500 miles and covered the distance between Wolverhampton and San Francisco.
He hopes to raise £4,000 to help the appeal for a total of £2 million to secure the future of the hospice at Walsall.
David said: "I work for National Express at Walsall and as a driver am sitting down during my work and this is a way to keep fit and counteract the weight I might gain.
"I am walking about 14,000 steps each day and up to 100,000 each week and take every opportunity to carry out the challenge.
"I enjoy walking and last year raised £2,300 for Acorns.
"My wife, Sharon, has also persuaded me to do a 12-hour cycle ride on an exercise bike at the house on February 7.
"I have gained a lot of support from colleagues, friends and family and decided to do the challenge during the year to help secure the future of the Hospice which provides a lifeline for local life-limited and life-threatened children and their families.
"There are many ways people can support the hospice by taking part in online activities and in March there is to be a 10,000 step challenge.
"I hope to complete my personal challenge in December and hope that people will support me by donating through my justgiving page."
