Restaurant plan for petrol station in Dudley
A new restaurant and takeaway could be built at a Dudley petrol station to help boost business.
Proposals have been submitted to Dudley Council planning officers for the erection of a new two-storey building at Himley Road Service Station.
If approved, the restaurant would be on the ground floor while offices, changing facilities and a two bedroom apartment would be housed on the first floor.
Petrol station bosses said the new venture was needed in order to sustain the existing premises. This will go alongside other changes including the removal of car washing and servicing.
The application said: “Following the recent acquisition of the adjoining site, it is considered important to expand the range of services in order to sustain the provision of petrol sales.
“The proposed two storey dwelling will have a 44 cover restaurant/takeaway which will operate on a seven days a week basis to include Sundays and Bank Holidays from 8am to midnight.
“Provision has been made for separate parking for a nine spaces, to include disabled spaces.
“It is important to increase the service facilities to the fuel station in order to sustain the economic feasibility of future fuel sales.
“The garage management team have decided to close the original car wash area as well as the car servicing facility.
“Therefore, the management have decided to add this restaurant/takeaway facility to the range of services to the existing convenience garage shop.
“The existing area is a popular residential area on the outskirts of Dudley.
“Although the site is in the green belt, it is understood that existing businesses located within are allowed to extend their range of associated facilities in order to sustain their original business.”
The proposal is currently being considered by planning officers at Dudley Council.
