Finley, 8, raises hundreds of pounds with Alzheimer's Society charity walk
Schoolboy Finley Stevens has completed a charity walk along the canal towpath near his home and raised £460 for the Alzheimer's Society.
Eight-year-old Finley, from Swindon, near Wombourne, decided to take on the ten-mile walking challenge as his great-grandmother Tina Di Franco, aged 90, who lives in the family home, has dementia.
Finley said: "My great nan sometimes forgets things like where she put her handbag and house key and myself and my three-year-old brother, Oakley, find them for her.
"Nanny Tina also forgets where she has left her knitting.
"She is Italian and has taught me how to make pasta, speak some Italian and how to plant my own vegetable patch.
"I go for walks with her but she has to use her wheelchair and cannot walk very far.
"I wanted to do the charity walk to help raise money for other people who have dementia."
Proud
Sheena Di Frranco, Finley's grandmother and her mother's full-time carer, said: "Finley is very proud of having completed the sponsored walk.
"He trained for it by walking home from Glynne Primary School at Kingswinford.
"I am exceptionally proud of his achievement.
"He loves his great-grandmother very much and is a little superstar."
Finley completed the first five miles of his challenge with his mother, 34-year-old primary school teacher Sarah Stevens and Sheena's husband, Richard, accompanied him for the final five miles.
He has now taken a map and photographs of his sponsored walk and a medal made by his father, Jamie Stevens, to show his classmates at school.
Sheena said: "We are delighted by how much Finley has raised and will be keeping the justgiving page open until the end of the month"
