Plans revealed for £12 million special school campus
Plans have been unveiled for a new £12 million campus at a Black Country special needs school.
The new site is planned for Pens Meadow Special School, which provides education for pupils with complex needs, autism and profound and multiple learning difficulties,
Dudley Council is currently seeking investment for the plans of a new school site, which would provide education for 115 children and young people aged three to 19 years.
It is hoped the planning process can get underway this year.
Plans include an on-site nursery, an assisted living block to support young people with independent living and full catering facilities.
It would also provide state of the art equipment, therapy rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, changing facilities, outdoor teaching and play areas, community group facilities, and 14 bespoke classrooms specifically designed to cater to children with additional needs.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said: "If approved, this new building would be so much more than bricks and mortar – it has the potential to improve the lives of children and young people for many years to come.
"Pens Meadow is a fantastic special school, which delivers a personalised curriculum to prepare their pupils for the next stage of their school or adult life.
"The current school requires significant investment and being split over two sites prevents it from meeting its full potential.
"Parents and teachers can be assured that the current school site will remain in use until the proposed new campus is operational and we will do all we can to support children and young people through the transition."
