Number of Covid patients in region's hospitals down to double figures
Hospital trusts across the Black Country and Staffordshire were caring for 58 coronavirus patients, as figures show the numbers slowing as the country prepares to take the next step out of lockdown.
NHS England data showed the number being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on May 4, was down slightly from 59 on the same day the previous week.
A total of 18 coronavirus patients were being cared for at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust as of last Tuesday – down from 21 on the same day the previous week.
The number of beds occupied by Covid-positive patients has decreased by 65 per cent in the last four weeks.
A total of 12 coronavirus patients were being cared for at the University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) NHS Trust as of May 4 – up from eight on the same day the previous week.
The number of beds occupied by people at the trust who tested positive for coronavirus decreased by 61 per cent in the last four weeks.
At the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, 13 coronavirus patients were being cared for last week – in line with the same day the previous week.
The number of beds at the Dudley trust occupied by Covid patients decreased by 43 per cent in the last four weeks.
Ten Covid patients were being cared for at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust as of 8am on May 4 down from 14 on the same day the previous week.
While the number of beds at the Walsall trust occupied by people who tested positive for coronavirus has decreased by 52 per cent in the last four weeks.
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust was caring for five coronavirus patients as of last week – up from three on the same day the previous week. There were seven beds occupied by Covid-19 patients four weeks ago at the Wolverhampton trust.
The figures also show that in the week to May 2, 13 new Covid patients were admitted to UHNM; 11 to the Sandwell and West Birmingham trust; 10 to the Wolverhampton trust; nine to the Dudley trust; and two to the Walsall trust.
Across England there were 1,093 people in hospital with Covid as of May 4, with 162 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.
The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 58 per cent in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 60 per cent.
