Ramped up Covid testing in Black Country after South African strain case found
Surge testing will be carried out in parts of the Black Country after a case of the South African coronavirus variant was found.
Sandwell Council said the extra testing will begin for residents in the Smethwick and Cape Hill area on Thursday.
A council spokesman "strongly encouraged everyone aged 16 and over within specific streets" in the area to take a swab test.
The local authority has set up a testing unit behind Smethwick Council House, in High Street, Smethwick.
It will be open between 9am and 3.45pm on Thursday, and from 8am on Friday and onwards.
People able to walk there do not need to book an appointment, but those travelling by motor vehicles are asked to do so.
