People aged 55 and over invited to book Covid-19 vaccine
People aged 55 and over are now being invited to get their life-saving Covid-19 vaccine.
So far staff have vaccinated more than 378,000 people across the Black Country and West Birmingham, meaning more than one third of the adult population, have already received the life-saving jab.
People aged 60 were invited to have a life-saving jab last week and letters have now started arriving at the homes of those aged 55 and over, in addition to text messages inviting them to book a vaccination through the national booking service. Those most at risk are being vaccinated first in line with guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.
Sally Roberts, chief nurse for Black Country and West Birmingham CCGs said: “We are pleased to be able to invite everyone over 55 to come and get their Covid-19 vaccine.
“We want to ensure everyone in an eligible group has had the chance to get protected, especially those who are clinically vulnerable and most at risk of serious illness.
“We continue to see that some people are not taking up the offer of a vaccine, but no one will be left behind. I would urge anyone who is eligible to contact the NHS and make an appointment now.
“If you have already been offered a jab but have not taken it up it is not too late. Please come forward and we will get you booked in”
For those that are eligible, the easiest way to arrange a vaccination is through the national booking service which can be accessed at nhs.uk/covid-vaccination
The system allows patients to choose a time slot and location that suits them.
Anyone unable to book online can call 119 free of charge, anytime between 7am and 11pm seven days a week.
NHS teams are visiting those who are housebound and cannot travel to a vaccination service.
Appointments are staggered to allow for social distancing and people are being asked not to turn up early to avoid creating queues.
Everyone will receive a health status check and a pre-vaccination assessment before they have their jab.
