23 more coronavirus deaths across Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire

A further 23 coronavirus patients have died in hospitals in the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire.

It means the total number of Covid-19 patients who have died in the region's hospitals now stands at 7,058.

A further 1,289 people have died in the region's care homes.

Meanwhile the UK death toll went up by 533 to 119,920 on Friday.

Four deaths were announced by the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, where the death toll now stands at 1,061.

Four deaths were recorded at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital, where the toll increased to 671.

Three deaths were reported at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, where the death toll stands at 679.

Two deaths were confirmed at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross Hospital, where the total deaths is now 750.

A further two deaths were announced by the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs the main hospitals in Stafford and Stoke, taking the toll to 1,308.

And seven deaths were recorded at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs hospitals in the city including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where the toll now stands at 2,435.

One more Covid death was also confirmed at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, where 16 coronavirus patients have died.

Elsewhere, three deaths were reported in Worcestershire – two at the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and one at Worcestershire Health and Care Trust.

Meanwhile the latest vaccination data shows 16,875,536 people have been given a first jab in the UK and 589,591 second doses have been administered.

In the Midlands 2,728,604 people have had first jabs and of these 74,703 people have had second doses.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and February 18.
