41 more coronavirus deaths across Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire

A further 41 coronavirus patients have died in hospitals across the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire.

It means the total number of Covid-19 patients who have died in the region's hospitals now stands at 7,005.

A further 1,289 have died in the region's care homes.

In figures released by NHS England today, there were a further 522 deaths in the country's hospitals, taking the total to 80,115.

Nine deaths were announced at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital, where the toll increased to 665.

Seven deaths were recorded at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, where the death toll stands at 674.

Six deaths were reported at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, where the death toll now stands at 1,049.

Three deaths were confirmed at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross Hospital, where the total deaths is now 744.

A further three deaths were announced at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs the main hospitals in Stafford and Stoke, taking the toll to 1,303.

While one death was recorded at the Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, taking the total number of deaths to 72.

And 12 deaths were reported at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs hospitals in the city including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where the toll now stands at 2,417.

Elsewhere, two deaths were confirmed at the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 522 people, who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 80,115

"Patients were aged between 24 and 103 years old. All except 20 – aged 33 to 91 years old – had known underlying health conditions.

"Date of death ranges from April 19, to February 16, with the majority being on or after February 12.

"Their families have been informed."

Meanwhile, 13,891,042 coronavirus vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 2,576,582 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 73,080 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and February 16.
