Birmingham New Road crash: Man taken to hospital after two-car smash

An elderly man was sent to hospital following a crash on one of the busiest roads in the Black Country.

Two cars crashed on the Birmingham New Road, near to the Vicarage Road junction, at Roseville, near Coseley.

A woman, in her 40s, and her three children, two boys and a girl, were in the other car but were unhurt.

Two ambulances and a care team doctor were called to the crash at 11.04am today.

The elderly man was taken to Russells Hall Hospital due to chest pain and the family were assessed at the scene and were unhurt.

Eight firefighters were also sent to the scene, including crews from Brierley Hill and Dudley.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Two ambulances and a care team doctor were called a crash involving two cars at 11.04am.

"The car went across a grass verge and there was debris on the road.

"There was an elderly gent in one car and a female, in her 40s, and three children including two boys and a girl in the other car.

"The elderly man was sent to Russells Hall Hospital due to chest pain and the family were unhurt but were assessed and checked over at the scene."
