Boy fighting for his life after being hit by a car in Wolverhampton

A boy is in a critical condition after being struck by a car in Wolverhampton.

The incident happened at around 3.45pm this afternoon at Warstones Road in Penn, when the boy, understood to be aged 12 or 13, was hit by a black Audi.

He was rushed to Birmingham Children's Hospital with head injuries.

The road has been closed since shortly after the collision took place between Pinfold Lane and Warstones Drive as police have carried out their investigations.

Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the West Midlands Police's collision investigation unit, said: "At approximately 3.45pm police were notified of a serious road traffic collision on Warstones Road, Wolverhampton.

"It involved a car and a child. The child was treated at the scene before being taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

"The driver of the car remained at the scene and has been assisting the police.

"The investigation is in its early stages and I would ask for any witnesses who have not spoken to us to contact myself or my team. The collision investigation team can be contacted on 101."
