Woman injured after suspected hit-and-run in Great Barr leading to police appeal

A woman has been injured in a suspected hit-and-run in Great Barr - close to the scene of an accident which killed a schoolgirl.

Police are hunting for a suspected hit-and-run driver after a woman aged in her 80s was hit in Birmingham Road.

The pensioner was taken to hospital following the incident at around 12pm close to The Beacon Harvester pub.

Birmingham Road at the junction of Peak House Road is closed following the collision.

West Midlands Police have warned people to avoid the area.

She suffered an arm injury and the driver of the car is believed to have fled the scene on foot.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Hannah Fitzgerald said officers were attempting to trace the driver.

The scene is close to where 17-year-old Great Barr student Zoe Shapiro was hit by a van.

She was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital but died from her injuries.

A man from Kidderminster has appeared in court charged with causing her death by dangerous driving.
