Tyre blaze at Wolverhampton car repair garage

Dozens of tyres were involved in a large blaze at a car repairs business in Wolverhampton.

Around 15 firefighters were called to M&J Motors in Dobbs Street, Blakenhall shortly after 8pm on Friday to tackle the flames.

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed the blaze involved around 40 tyres on fire.

Crews from Wolverhampton fire station tweeted this picture of the scene.

It has not been clarified at this stage if the flames ignited accidentally or not.

A fire control spokeswoman said: "We were called to the Dobbs Street, Blakenhall at 8.06pm. Forty tyres outside were on fire. It caused a little bit of damage to the garage.

"Two crews from Wolverhampton and one from Fallings Park attended.

"Police attendance was also requested.

"Firefighters left at 9.06pm."

M&J Motors confirmed the blaze took place at its premises but did not want to comment any further.

The Express & Star is awaiting a comment from West Midlands Police.
