Birmingham man arrested in terror investigation detained under Mental Health Act
A man from Birmingham who has been arrested as part of a counter-terror investigation after 'suspicious substances' were found at his home has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
The 27-year-old was initially arrested in Naseby Road, Alum Rock, in the early hours of yesterday morning after concerns were raised over him walking around holding a hammer.
He was then later held by terrorism officers when a search of his address uncovered suspicious substances in unlabelled bottles; the contents of which are being investigated by forensics experts.
Police continue to search the property in Naseby Road.
Neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated yesterday as a precautionary measure as initial safety checks were carried on the items, but explosives experts stressed there was no immediate risk to the public.
