Elderly woman killed in Staffordshire crash

An elderly woman was killed when she was hit by a car in Lichfield.

Bystanders had stopped to try to resuscitate the woman, but she died at the scene, on Birmingham Road, Shenstone Wood End.

It happened at 4.50pm yesterday.

West Midlands Ambulance spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: "Ambulance staff arrived to find an elderly woman who had been involved in a collision with a car. The woman was in traumatic cardiac arrest. They immediately took over resuscitation efforts from bystanders who had stopped to help, working as a team to provide advanced life support.

"The driver of the car was uninjured but was treated by ambulance staff for the effects of shock."
