Firefighters had to cut the doors off the red Citroën estate he had been driving to free him from the vehicle, before he was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Gina Lycett said: "A man, believed to be in his 90s, was taken from one of the vehicles and taken to hospital, where his injuries are described as serious."
