The crash caused delays for passengers at the station, with three stands forced to close.

Two of them remained closed throughout the day, with passengers describing the scene in the minutes after the crash as 'chaotic'.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were all called to the scene at around 8.20am and the station was evacuated for a short time.

Two ambulances were sent to the scene and two people were taken to New Cross Hospital with neck pains. Firefighters from Wolverhampton said the two taken to hospital were the drivers of both buses.

Some passengers were diverted to other bus stands following the collision, which sent smash glass spilling over the road.

The number 82 bus collided with two glass panels at stand C of the bus station, which opened in July 2011.

It also collided with the rear of the number 25 bus, which was at stand B.

Centro spokesman Peter Cameron said staff were on hand to divert passengers to other stands following the collision.

Jemma Thompson, aged 28, from Willenhall, was travelling into the city's bus station minutes after the smash.

She said: "I'd just dropped the kids off at school and I was heading into Wolverhampton to buy some Christmas presents. We were waiting for about five or six minutes before we could even get into the bus station. There was a crowd gathered around one of the stands and there were police and ambulances there. I could only see one bus and I thought that someone had been run over. Everyone was standing up on our bus to see what happened. It was chaotic."

Dominic Brindley, 17, from Perton was also affected by the disruption.

He added: "I was due to be meeting my mate on his lunch break but the bus was late and I realised half way through the journey I wasn't going to make it."

Two of the large glass windows at the bus station, in Piper's Road, were smashed in the collision, sending glass spilling onto the concourse.
