Passengers went to the aid of the male driver on the 246 bus journeying from Dudley through Amblecote yesterday evening.

They said the driver slumped at the wheel as he drove down the A491 near the Platt Crescent and Brettell Lane crossroads.

The bus mounted the kerb but this jolted the driver who braked and avoided hitting any buildings or lamp posts.

The incident happened around 5.10pm and paramedics were called to the scene. They checked over the driver who did not require hospital treatment.

National Express West Midlands spokesman Jack Kelly said: "We can confirm that an incident involving one of our vehicles took place on the 246 route yesterday evening. We are currently investigating the cause of the incident."
