Home schooling help at hand as firm set up
A mother and daughter have set up a business to help home-schooling families find tutors.
Clare Berry and Hannah Hall, from Stone, have created Joy to Learn Tuition, matching tutors with families.
They can provide tuition in academic subjects such as English and Maths from pre-schoolers learning to read right up to those who need help to study for GCSEs and A-Levels.
As well as providing a tuition service, Joy to Learn is also building a growing set of information and training videos, blog posts and resources to help parents on their home-ed journey.
The Home Ed Hub as it is called is provided free of charge on the Joy to Learn website.
Clare is a qualified teacher and has worked in secondary and middle schools as well as working as a home-tutor.
She has served on the education committee of a local council as an elected member as well as serving on several school governing bodies.
Hannah was home educated as a child and is now teaching her own children at home.
She is a qualified dance teacher and soft tissue therapist. Clare and Hannah live in Yarnfield, Stone.
Clare said: “I was working as a private tutor and demand was so high, I was having to turn work away. I am passionate about home education and really wanted to help these parents to access the specialised tuition that their children need.”
Hannah added: “We are excited about the potential to provide job opportunities for tutors in Staffordshire and to also help the growing home education community.
"I love the freedom that home education provides to enable children to pursue their own passion and interests.
"This is something that I benefited hugely from as a home educated child and I want to help the next generation to pursue what they love by introducing them to tutors who can pass on their passion and expertise.”
