Karate teenager tackling new media role at school

Charlotte Bowering, from Gnosall, is working at Castle House School in Newport as part of a business administration apprenticeship.

The 18-year-old, who also holds a 1st Dan black belt in karate, said: “It has already become clear to me that my passions lie in the media industry.”

She has taken on the role at Castle House, an independent preparatory school for girls and boys, after completing A-levels in sociology, psychology and law.

And she said she is thoroughly enjoying both her time at the school, and the training element of the apprenticeship through Telford College.

“I’m finding it very helpful as I am learning a lot about business," she said.

"I wish I had picked it as an A-level, so I am happy I am now working towards gaining a qualification in it.

“There are two aspects to my role at Castle House.

"First of all, to carry out general administrational tasks such as managing correspondence with internal and external stakeholders via email or telephone and using IT systems to input data.

“However, a massive part of my job is promoting the school by increasing our visibility on our main social media platforms, creating editorial pieces about the school, and communicating with local newspaper and magazine editors.

“My long-term goal includes working for a local radio or TV station, to help promote businesses in the area.

“I am very determined to reach this goal by working hard and developing my skills, by obtaining relevant work experience and gaining knowledge from professionals in this industry.”

Charlotte has been training in karate for the past five years, and also enjoys photography in her spare time.
