Arrest after pedestrian hit by car taken to hospital with serious injuries

A pedestrian was taken to hospital with a serious head injury after he was hit by a car in Birmingham.

The A34 Walsall Road was closed on the northbound section between Church Road and Beeches Road in Perry Barr, near Alexandra Stadium, following the incident.

West Midlands Police were called to the scene just after 10am on Saturday.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while over the specified drug limit.

The road was closed for just over two hours before reopening to traffic.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating after a pedestrian was hit by a car on Walsall Road, Perry Barr, shortly before 10am today.

"A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while over the specified drug limit.

"The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, has been taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

"The road has since reopened and we thank motorists for their patience while we carried out investigations of the scene.
