'I was surprised to wake up': Walsall shooting victim feared he would die after barber shop attack
A shooting victim feared he would die after being blasted by a shotgun at a barber shop, a trial heard.
Tehmoor Hussain, 24, was allegedly shot by Uzair Shahid at Katz Kutz in Walsall over a dispute about money owed on car.
Mr Hussain suffered serious stomach injuries and underwent three operations after the shooting on May 19, 2019.
Mr Mark Trafford QC, defending Shahid, read out Mr Hussain's police statement to jurors at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Quoting the victim, he said: "I crawled to the rear of the shop for safety.
"I thought I was going to die. I tried to stay composed and told people to put pressure on my wound.
"But I could see the whole lumps of blood coming out of the hole.
"Eventually, the paramedics arrived and I was taken to hospital in an air ambulance.
"I went unconscious and when I came around to hospital, I was surprised to still be alive."
Confrontation
The court heard Mr Hussain and his father were having their hair cut before the shooting took place, just after 5pm.
Shahid, also known as Jeeza, and Toyub Ali, allegedly entered the shop and confronted him about money for a car.
Mr Hussain said he was punched in the head before both defendants ran out of the shop and Shahid took a gun from a black BMW, which was parked outside.
He said he told Shahid not to shoot before hearing a loud bang and falling to the floor.
Mr Trafford questioned whether it was Shahid who shot Mr Hussain, claiming the assailant was wearing a mask.
But Mr Hussain replied: "I saw his face. I watched him shoot me. I will never forget his face."
Shahid, 21, of Lichfield Road, in Rushall, Walsall, denies attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm intent with intent to endanger life.
Toyub Ali, 19, of no fixed abode, denies possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.
The trial continues.
