M6 drivers caught breaching Covid regulations

Motorway police in the West Midlands had a busy night dealing with Covid-19 offences.

Officers from Central Motorway Police Group were called into action with in two different incidents on the M6 near Birmingham.

The first took place around 10pm on Friday, and saw officers stop a red Golf travelling southbound at Junction 6 on the M6.

Officers had initially stopped the Golf to investigate other possible offences it had information about, then discovered the driver had gone on a 100-mile round trip to pick up the car in a private car swap.

The driver was subsequently reported to court for Covid-19 offences.

A later instance saw an driver pulled over by police on the M6 near Birmingham, where it was discovered the driver had purchased the car, but had no insurance or tax, as well as only a provisional licence on the motorway.

Officers then discovered the driver and passenger were from different households and not on an essential journey.

Both occupants were reported for Covid-19 offences and the car was seized.
