Father jailed for attacking wife and son with broom
A man who attacked his wife and 14-year-old son with a broom handle has been locked up for 16 months.
Amrik Singh lost his temper and repeatedly slapped the woman in the face before turning on the boy after the teenager stepped in to protect his mother, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.
Then the 49 year old prodded his wife in the stomach with the broom handle which was then used to beat the child at their home on December 12 last year, said Mr John Brotherton, prosecuting.
Police were called and Singh, who was already the subject of a suspended sentence for an earlier assault of his wife, was arrested.
The father of three moved to this country from Italy in June last year with his family following three months later. "Problems arose almost immediately," revealed Mr Brotherton.
Singh of Bearwood Road, Smethwick, pleaded guilty to assaulting both his wife and eldest child and also admitted breaking the terms of the suspended sentence order.
He was sent to prison by Recorder Stephen Thomas, who told him: "You were given an opportunity by another judge to show you could live with your wife without assaulting her.
"That trust was misplaced because you did it again and display scant evidence of remorse.
"Then, if assaulting your wife was not bad enough, you compounded it by assaulting you son who was only trying to protect his mother."
