Two men threatened staff at the bakery on Anchor Parade and demanded they hand over cash at around 8.30am.
The men made off on foot and officers continue to search for the suspects.
The crooks struck just one hour before masked robbers armed with machetes smashed their way into the town's Barclays bank less than a mile away.
Police say they do not believe the two incidents are connected.
Anyone with information is urged to call West Midlands Police on 101.
