Tucker the tabby cat returned home to Weston Crescent where his owner found a metal pellet lodged in his cheek.

His owner was able to pull it out, but now the RSPCA has launched an investigation into the incident.

Insp Laura Bryant said: "Tucker is very lucky he wasn't injured more seriously, or worse, killed. The reality is the outcome could have been much, much worse.

"Luckily, the pellet missed his eye, narrowly escaping blinding him and his cheek bone prevented it entering further and doing much greater damage.

"Tucker has definitely used up one of his nine lives in this incident."

Police have also been informed and the RSPCA is now appealing for information in order to piece together what happened to Tucker.

The incident happened last Thursday night, and details were released today.

Insp Bryant added: "I'd be keen to hear from anyone who may have seen Tucker on Thursday or who may know what has happened to him. Anyone with information can get in touch by calling 0300 123 8018.

"I'd also like to remind people that they could face six months in prison and/or a £20,000 fine if caught deliberately using an air gun or pellet gun to injure an animal."
