JAILED: Former care home worker who sprayed water in pensioner's face
A former carer who sprayed water into an 81-year-old woman's face so she would move as he showered her has been jailed.
Gary Walker also threw a wet flannel into an 82-year-old man's face and made him 'writhe' as he pressed it against him, a court was told.
Asked why he had acted in such a way to that victim while working at the Horse Fair Care Home in Rugeley, he told a colleague: "He doesn't like me, I don't like him."
Walker, 31, had also admitted turning off a pressure mat in an 88-year-old man's room three times. The mat was there to alert staff if the resident got out of bed because he was at high risk of falling, Cannock Magistrates' Court heard.
Friends and relatives of the victims sobbed in the public gallery as Walker, of Shaftesbury Road, Rugeley, was led away to start a 16-week jail term.
He admitted one count of wilfully neglecting a person without capacity and two additional counts of wilfully neglecting an individual.
Walker had earlier been dismissed from his post at the care home by its owners, the Avery Healthcare Group.
Walker must also pay an £80 victim surcharge and has been banned from caring for vulnerable people again.
For Walker, Zafar Rashid said earlier: "He is a caring individual. He does express remorse."
Avery Healthcare spokesman Mark Danis said: "Avery Healthcare fully supported the investigation from the outset having suspended this staff member immediately reports were made, has worked closely with all the authorities throughout, and supports the decisions of the court. Resident welfare is our utmost priority."
