Sacked: 40 West Midlands Police officers dismissed for misconduct
A total of 40 West Midlands Police officers and police staff have been sacked for misconduct in the past four years, latest figures reveal.
The details, released under the Freedom of Information Act, show the reasons for dismissal include discreditable conduct, issues of honesty and integrity and confidentiality.
Those dismissed since 2013 include Pc Chris Blount from Sedgley, who was sacked earlier this year after being convicted of drink-driving.
Since 2012/13 a total of 33 police officers have been dismissed.
Meanwhile, seven police staff have been dismissed – however two have been reinstated.
Ch Insp Darren Walsh, from the force's professional standards department, said: "The public quite rightly expect that those who uphold the law to abide by the law.
"The figures clearly demonstrate West Midland Police's commitment to upholding this expectation."
Pc Blount was stopped on November 6 on the Black Country Route after patrolling officers spotted him 'struggling to control' his Vauxhall Mokka at 2.30am.
The officer was a member of the collision investigation unit. In January, he admitted one count of drink-driving. He is said to have given a reading of 101mg per 100ml in a breathalyser, nearly three times the limit.
