Pregnant woman punched in stomach by robber

A pregnant woman was punched in the stomach in one of five street robberies in the region that are believed to be linked.

The mother-to-be had her bag stolen after the attack as she waited for a bus on Vivian Road, Harborne, at around 9.30pm on Monday.

It happened just 90 minutes after a woman bravely clung onto her handbag as she resisted a robber on Harborne High Street.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery, attempted robbery and theft by police investigating the spate of crimes.

Detectives are also probing a bag snatch on Halesowen Street in Oldbury, which happened in between the two Harborne attacks, as well as robberies on Foley Street in Wednesbury, shortly before midday on Wednesday, and on North Western Road in Smethwick at 10pm on Thursday February 18.

The 35-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in Oldbury yesterday, while a 37-year-old woman also from Oldbury was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of driving the robber to and from the crimes.

  • Carrie Lewis, from Hollyoake Close, appeared in Sandwell Magistrates this morning charged with three robberies and one count of theft. She was granted bail, with conditions of a 7pm to 7am curfew, and will appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on March 30.
