Sacked police officer charged over A5 crash deaths

A former police officer sacked for gross misconduct has been charged following the death of a mother and daughter in a five-car smash on the A5.

Diane McGrail, aged 53, and Kira Elizabeth McGrail, 14, from Oakley, Market Drayton, died in the crash near Weston-under-Lizard in July last year.

Vinod Dahiya, 46, from Muxton, Telford, will go before magistrates on two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He will appear at Cannock Magistrates Court on February 24.

Five vehicles were involved in the collision, which occurred at around 2.20pm on July 6.

Dahiya was a serving police officer in Telford for 10 years before being dismissed for gross misconduct in November.
