Refuse worker charged after man's skull fractured in attack during Christmas party

A refuse worker has been charged after a man was left with a fractured skull and bleed on the brain after being attacked while at a work Christmas party.

52-year-old David Baker was left in a critical condition following the attack in Birmingham's Broad Street at around 3am on Sunday morning.

Daniel Ward, aged 27, from Cock Hill Lane in Rubery, Birmingham, was charged last night with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning.

Four other men are currently on police bail and Mr Baker, from Solihull, remains seriously ill in hospital.

Meanwhile police continue to appeal for witnesses and are urging anyone who saw what happened but have not yet come forward to contact them on 101.
