'It's by chance it's not murder': Woman and child injured in 'deliberate' Wolverhampton hit-and-run

Police are searching for the driver of a silver Vauxhall Vectra which they believe drove into the boy and a woman, aged 26, on Tennyson Road, Wolverhampton at around 6.45pm on Wednesday December 2.

Police said it was "by chance" the pair were still alive after the collision which left them both with minor injuries.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the inquiry, but police are appealing for help in their search for both the Vectra and the driver.

They believe the car would have been damaged by the impact of hitting the boy and have asked anyone who was in the Tennyson Road area on Wednesday evening to come forward.

DS Lisa Tibbitts from Wolverhampton police station said: "It is only by chance that we are not dealing with a murder inquiry here.

"We believe that the woman may have been targeted deliberately and need to find the driver of the car.

"The car would have been damaged after the child hit the bonnet, so we are looking for a 'sporty looking' silver Vauxhall Vectra with tinted windows and with front end damage.

"If you have seen a car matching this description then please call us. If you work at a garage and have recently had to repair a car matching this description then we want to hear from you.

"We are also asking people who may have been in the area at the time and may have seen this car to come forward.

"No matter how insignificant you feel the information is, it might be the key to solving this crime and we would urge you to call me or one of the team on 101."
