War medals and jewellery among haul stolen in Rugeley raids

Four homes have been targeted in a matter of days, prompting a warning from police for residents to be vigilant.

One of the burglaries took place in St Michael's Road, with more than 30 pieces of jewellery stolen.

It is believed thieves gained entry by forcing a window at the back of home. It happened between 10.30am on October 23 and 5.30am on October 25 while the occupants were away.

Staffordshire Police said: "We've recently seen a number of burglaries in the Rugeley area and would urge residents to be on their guard and observant at all times.

"Always make sure your property is locked and secure and report any suspicious activity to police immediately."

Another home was broken in to on Wednesday of this week between 11am and 5.30pm on Coulthwaite Way.

Someone got in through an unlocked door and stole an Xbox 360 console and games.

Five days earlier on October 23, thieves made an attempted break in on the same street. Between 1.30pm and 8.40pm, someone tried to force a rear window but left without getting in the property.

In a further break-in, criminals prised open a window at a home in Setterfield Way and made an untidy search before leaving. It happened some time between 9.30am on Tuesday and 1pm Wednesday but nothing was reported stolen.

Anyone with information on the incidents has been urged to contact police on 101 to pass on details.

The full list of items stolen from the property at St Michael's Road included an Orange Toshiba laptop, 200 Silk Cut cigarettes, 200 Richmond Superking cigarettes, two gold Second World War medals, two 18 carat gold thin wedding bands, two silver Victorian men's watches, a polished wooden jewellery box, a round shell jewellery box, 15 pairs of gold loop earrings, two silver charm bracelets full of various charms, a small red leather pouch containing five wedding rings, an ivory hand ornament, a silver ivory soldier teething ring, a silver ivory teddy bear teething ring, a silver expandable bangle, a1930s necklace with a ruby and pink stone and a gold locket.
