Police appeal after woman seriously hurt in Wednesbury dog attack
A dog walker was left needing surgery after being attacked by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier while trying to protect her own pet as they walked across playing fields.
Police say the 41-year-old woman was out walking her own Jack Russell on playing fields in Wednesbury when the drama happened.
After going to leave the site near Richard Williams Road she heard a disturbance, turned around and saw the dog and two men running towards her.
The Staffie jumped up and tried to bite her Jack Russell which she desperately tried to protect.
One of the men tried to restrain the dog – thought to be called Barnie or Barmy – but it struggled free and bit the woman on the arm.
She was thankfully able to escape to a friend's house and was taken to hospital where she underwent surgery the following day.
Today officers investigating the case released CCTV images of two men they want to speak to about the attack which happened on October 26 at 5.30pm.
Sgt Leighton Shingles said: "In trying to protect her dog the owner has been the victim of a vicious attack.
"It's against the law to let a dog be dangerously out of control in a public place and I would urge the community to come forward with any information which may assist the investigation.
"Officers have trawled through CCTV as part of this investigation and the images that have been released were taken from a nearby shop.
"I also want to appeal directly to the owner of the dog to do the right thing and come forward."
One man pictured on the CCTV is described as white, around 5ft 6ins tall and thin , with a shaved head, in his late 40s to early 50s and wearing blue jeans. The other man was also white, around 5ft 3ins tall, of large build, with grey spiked hair and wearing blue jeans and a black coat.
Anyone able to help should call 101.
