A murder inquiry has been launched after a man died from stab wounds following a disturbance outside a Wolverhampton nightclub.

Police were called to the Uberra club, off Wednesfield Road and next to the Broad Street canal basin, at 5am today.

A 23-year-old man was found with serious injuries and taken to New Cross Hospital where he later died.

He has been named locally as Tom Kirwan, an avid Wolves fan.

Roads around the nightclub were sealed off today as scenes of crimes officers carried out their investigations.

Police say a post mortem is being carried out. A spokesman said officers had been called to a serious disturbance in which several other people were also hurt.

Flowers and a Wolves shirt were left at the scene today.
