Ladder for the Black Country: Roofer Ben's swift progression
The Ladder for the Black County team has been delighted by the progression made by Ben Bates from a study programme with Juniper Training to starting an apprenticeship as a roofer.
Ben started at Juniper Training in August 2020 to begin the programme in the Building Futures Construction Pathway in Roofing.
Whilst studying at Juniper he achieved Level 1 in introduction to construction (roofing), grade five in GCSE English and grade four in maths.
Kulli Khosa, performance manager at Juniper Training, said: “During his time at Juniper, Ben was always eager to learn and was extremely committed. He was focused and driven in achieving what was planned for him – especially as he had not attained his GCSEs before starting at Juniper.
"As he has a very happy disposition, it is no surprise that he got on well with his peers and the staff. He became a role model to some of his peers and in February 2021 he progressed onto a Level 2 roofer apprenticeship and is building his knowledge and skills really well with the company. Feedback from his employer is that he is a real star.
"Ben has also represented Juniper at a recent visit from the Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson. We’re all so proud of your achievements Ben – well done!”
Ben said: “I can honestly say I am so glad I came to Juniper. It was exactly what I needed to get where I wanted to be. I passed my GCSE maths and English which is amazing and then I achieved my construction qualification, passed the CSCS test and I am now on a Level 2 roofer apprenticeship.
"I would definitely recommend the Study Programme to anyone that wants to achieve their maths and English and go on to do the career of their choice. The staff are very helpful and supportive.
“I even got to sit down and have a chat with Gavin Williamson the Education Secretary when he came to our head office. I gave him some tips on what type of products he should use and how to stay safe whilst mending his own roof. Thanks for these opportunities Juniper.”
