Kirby Brewer from Highley is a finalist in the 2021 UK Hair and Beauty awards in the Hairstylist of the year and Best for Blonde categories.

The 24-year-old, who runs her own hairdressing business in Kidderminster and Bewdley, said it meant a lot to her to even be nominated for an award.

She said: "Obviously, it's a massive achievement to even be a finalist, so it's very overwhelming and exciting to be on the list for two awards.

"I'm going to wait and see what happens on the night of the awards, but I'm just so proud to be in these categories."

Mrs Brewer said she had submitted entries for both awards through social media, due to the coronavirus pandemic, and explained what went into the Best for Blonde category.

Specialist

She said: "It's all about picture work with the blonde hair you work with, showing examples of before and after of what you achieved.

"Blonde hair is a real speciality and is a lot more difficult to master than everything else as there's a lot more work behind it and it's a specialist field."

Mrs Brewer said she had received a lot of positive feedback from her customers, with many sending words of congratulations over social media.

She said it made her very proud of what she had accomplished, having set up her business in November 2019 and being able to keep it running during the pandemic.

She said: "I've worked so hard and sacrificed a lot to get to this stage and while I've taken a hit due to Covid, I've still achieved so much.

"Getting the recognition as a finalist is unreal and I'd like to use this to help to start educating others in hairdressing.

"Who knows, it would be a great advertisement to have '2021 award winner' next to my name!"
