Despite rising levels of youth unemployment many employers in the region are still creating and offering fresh apprenticeship opportunities for those looking for employment.

There is a view that due to the lockdown young people have not been aware of the many potential career opportunities that are out there.

The message from the Ladder team is that apprenticeships are out there despite the gloom.

Black Country Ladder co-ordinator Anne Moore said many Ladder members currently have vacancies that they are still looking to fill.

Lesley Turner from Walsall-based Performance Through People said that PTP Training was delivering a wide variety of highly effective training solutions that are flexible and responsive to learners' needs.

"We are working with a range of employers to provide learners across the Black Country and wider area with access currently to 38 apprenticeships vacancies within dental, accounts, business, warehousing, engineering and saddlery.”

Apprenticeship

The Apprenticeship Works in West Bromwich also has a range of apprenticeship vacancies in the Black Country.

Business development co-ordinator Mike Smith said: "We have apprenticeships available in the following sectors: customer service, business administration, warehousing, ICT and digital marketing. All of these opportunities are advertised on www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship and on CV Library.

"If you are interested in any of these vacancies and would like further information, please contact The Apprenticeship Works office on 0121 544 6455 – option1.”

Apprenticeship engage manager Jayne Guest at In-Comm Training Services in Walsall said it currently had 14 vacancies.

"There is still a strong appetite from Black Country and West Midlands firms to invest in future skills and we are seeing an increase in demand from companies looking to recruit apprentices," she said.

The In-Comm vacancies range from engineering operatives, product designers and lean manufacturers to business administrators, customer service workers and toolmakers.

"These positions are ready to go and we'll take care of the entire process, including interviews, matching people with the apprenticeships and then delivering training at three world class academies in Aldridge, Bridgnorth and Shrewsbury," she added.
