Man's body found in city centre canal
The body of a man has been found in a canal in Birmingham city centre.
A member of the public called West Midlands Police at around 11.50am on December 11.
Officers arrived at the canal on Gas Street Basin and recovered the body.
The man in his late 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pete Wall, force incident manager, chief inspector, said: “We received a 999 call at around 11.50am from a member of the public reporting what they thought was a body in the canal at Gas Street Basin in Birmingham city centre.
“Sadly the body of a man has been recovered and pronounced dead at the scene.
“We are in the process of formally identifying the body but it’s believed to be that of a man in his late 20s.
“At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained."
